This article will show you how to set up your Dymo software and get started with Check-Ins. Use this Printer Check Page to help you troubleshoot which part of this process might be getting tripped up.
Dymo printers are only compatible with machines that allow the Dymo software to be installed (Mac and Windows) and have a USB port. You can use an iPad or Android device with Dymo by printing to another station.
Install the Dymo Software
Once your printer is plugged into your machine, download and install the Dymo Label Software from the website to ensure you have the latest version.
Select the Mac or Windows download, depending on the type of machine you're using.
Walk through installing the software and the needed Dymo widget. Once it's installed, select print at the bottom right of the software to make sure it's working properly. If it doesn't work at that point, try restarting your computer and/or reinstalling the software from the website.
Test the Dymo Widget
When you first start up the Dymo software, you should have seen a prompt to install the Dashboard widget, which you'll need for Check-Ins. If you didn't see this prompt, you might have an older version of Dymo. Grab the latest version and reinstall.
Once installed, you'll see a widget in your toolbar. On Mac, you'll see a Dymo logo at the top of your computer. On a Windows device you'll see it on the bottom right in the System tray.
To test the plugin, select on the icon in the toolbar/system tray and select Diagnose.
If everything is green on that page and our Printer Check Page, then Check-Ins is ready to print labels! If not, check out our Troubleshooting tips.
If the printer isn't working properly, use one of the issues below and follow the steps to fix it.
Reset the printer
To refresh the printer, unplug the power cord from the printer for a full 10 seconds and then plug it back in. When you plug it back in, make sure the connection is secure. If it feels loose, that could cause connection problems and you might need a new printer/usb c
More than one printer installed
First, you will want to go to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel (or System Preferences for Mac users). Make sure there is only one instance of the Dymo printer installed and that it's set to be your default printer. If you only see one Dymo printer there, skip to the next step.
If you do have multiple Dymo printers installed, you will need to move the inactive one. To figure out which one that is:
- Unplug your Dymo printer from the computer
- Right click the one that did not become greyed out when you unplugged the printer
- Select Remove Device
Mac Users: Select the extra Dymo printer and then click on the minus button (-) on the bottom right.
You will need to make sure you're using the right Dymo Drivers. To find out what version of the Dymo Software you have follow these steps:
- Open the Dymo Software
- (Windows users) Select Help in your toolbar, then select About Dymo
- (Mac users) Select DYMO Label in your toolbar and then About Dymo
You will want to have Dymo 8.5.3. If you have a different version of the Dymo software, you will want to follow these steps:
- Completely uninstall the version you currently have installed.
- Restart your computer
- Download and Install 8.5.3
- Restart your computer (restarting your computer both times is the key, please do not skip these steps)
