In May, we let you know that we had been seeing an increase in reports of Brother wireless printer issues and were investigating to find the root of the problem.
Since then, we have released some major updates to our iOS mobile app, our desktop app, and our support resources that will make your future printing experiences more reliable and easier to troubleshoot. We know this has been a difficult season for many of our customers using Brother printers, and we want to thank you for your feedback in this process.
These improvements will provide a more consistent mobile experience and a more flexible desktop experience. Here is a list of updates to look out for with Check-Ins printing:
Check-Ins Mobile iOS - New Printing Process
Check-Ins Mobile version 3.0 is now available for download on iOS. This version includes a complete overhaul of the printer connection process and majorly improves disconnection issues you may be experiencing using Wi-Fi with Brother on iOS. It also contains:
- A new manual printer pairing process for Brother.
- The ability to establish a default printer for each device.
- A printer status indicator so you can see your printer’s status at a glance (e.g., connected or disconnected).
- Automatic Brother settings updates to make sure your printer is optimized for Check-Ins.
- And many other small improvements!
If you've been experiencing issues with Brother printer connection on iOS, pop over to the App Store and make sure your stations are running the most recent version!
Check-Ins Desktop - Brother Support on Desktop
The latest Brother printers (800 series) now work on MacOS and Windows with the latest Check-Ins app!
This means Brother printers are the first printers that will work across Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android. The new desktop app also supports both wired and wireless connections. The wired connection is the exciting game changer here because the wireless connection is the weakest option for your church. If you don’t have control over the network you use or are in an area with unpredictable network connections, a wired USB connection will provide a stronger experience!
While we do expect the latest iOS update to fix connection issues with the app, if you have an unpredictable network, you can quickly plug the Brother printer into a desktop to continue checking in.
In addition, we added the ability to manually select the printer you want to connect to from your desktop to support those who may have multiple Brother devices visible on their computer.
This update is now available on all desktop stations!
Support Resources
To wrap things up, we have added some specific resources to help reduce confusion around choosing and supporting a Check-Ins station.
- If you are experiencing issues with your Brother printers, check out our new Brother Troubleshooting article for more streamlined steps.
- We have also refined our Brother recommendations in our Brother Printer article.
- Lastly, our Software and Hardware for Check-Ins article provides new resources to help define the different station types available to your church, as well as our recommendations for different church setups!
We know how stressful managing hardware can be on a Sunday morning. We want you to know that we are here for you, and we are fully committed to supporting these printers on compatible devices. This means we will keep working with you to find a solution until your Check-Ins stations are printing consistently.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to support@planningcenter.com if you have any questions. We would be happy to help!
